Moonrise Film Fest

Following last year’s successful launch, The Moonrise Film Festival will once more be held at the Gateway Mall on August 19 and 20. This year, more than a dozen films on Philippine environment and culture will be featured during this highly educational and entertaining two-day event. The Moonrise Film Festival aims to increase awareness and understanding of the Philippines, the state of its environment, its people, and its history. Its main goal is to fast –track and facilitate environmental awareness among Filipinos by means of effective education and communication through visual media. It also serves as a venue for the advancement of environmental and socially-relevant films and for the viewing and dissemination of such work. It is a celebration of the beauty of the Philippines and at the same time a reflection on environmental issues that the country is facing today.

This year’s films in competition for different Citations and Awards highlight topics on biodiversity, local arts and culture, indigenous peoples, environmental issues and much more. Films with reference to environmental issues from other countries or on a global scale and films in non-documentary formats will be screened as part of the festival exhibition.

To sustain the Moonrise Film Festival’s mission and to bring the documentaries to a wider audience, the Moonrise Road Tour brings the films to schools, communities and other public places like bars and concert venues all over the Philippines.

The Moonrise Film Festival is spearheaded by the Center for Environmental Awareness and Education in partnership with Ford Motor Conservation and Environmental Grants.

The Center for Environmental Awareness and Education (CEAE) is a leader in environmental education and environmental awareness initiatives in the Philippines. CEAE offers the internationally-acclaimed Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Project Water Education for Teacher (WET) workshops, which aim to facilitate environmental learning through engaging, innovative, and interdisciplinary activities. CEAE also holds the annual Philippine Educators for the Environment Conference.
